DEMOSA ABU LAGOS MINUTES OF APRIL MEETING
THE MINUTES OF DEMONSTRATION OLD
STUDENTS’ ALUMNI (DEMOSA) MEETING LAGOS
STATE CHAPTER HELD AT LTV8 COMPOUND, AGIDINGBI, IKEJA LAGOS ON 29TH
APRIL, 2011

YEAR
Opening
prayers was said by Pastor Jide Olumeyan at 3.35pm
Kudi
Olobayo read the minutes of the last meeting and all necessary corrections were
effected on the minutes. John Ojuola
moved the motion for adoption and Kudi Olobayo seconded.
Bukky
Dada was a bit under the weather, Fisayo Arowosegbe and Orighoye Edukugho sent
apology for their absence. Iyang Ema and Joseph Kafewo were been expected but
they could not make it , till the meeting ended. Femi Obagboye joined us for
the first time so also was Jide Olumeyan, Jumoke Olayemi (Olumeyan)’s brother
from Abuja. He was in Lagos visiting.
John
Ojuola reminded us of the promise we made regarding organizing a gift for our
then Vice Principal Mrs. Alaiyemola during our inaugural meeting when we paid
her a visit in Lagos. Segun Daramola agreed with him and said we should find
out her birth date and present her with what we have at that period. This was
agreed upon by the members’ present.
Since
we have a considerable number of members now, we need to start working on our
main agenda that is the process of registration of the Alumni and our
constitution. As other DEMOSA chapters are depending on Lagos Chapter to draw
up guidelines to abide by. Other issues outlined were:
Ø The
Alumini Logo
Ø Social
responsibilities to our teachers, school and our members
Ø Membership
Dues
Ø Welfare
of our members such as :
Naming
Ceremony, Child Dedication, Birthday, Medical Bills, School Expenses, House
Warming,
End of year parties, Seminars /Talk,
Burial., etc among other matters.
Segun
Daramola explained that he was very much impressed about the activities of
Christ School Alumni at a burial he attended of one of the member’s relations.
He wants DEMOSA to attain that level and
even pass it. Jide Olumeyan, shared with us his own experience too of another
Old Students Alumni. He said it was very interesting and worth emulating. He
further explained that we need to define the aims and objectives of setting up
DEMOSA.
Femi
Obagboye added that we need an EXCO in place to draft and tackle issues, so
that one day we can look back to our root and be happy that we started it all.
He also gave example of Barewa Old Boys Alumni’s achievement in the country
today. Each year group or state chapters of their Alumni call meetings and stay
in touch with one another to discuss latest development about their school and
their welfare. Once any of their members mentions the name of their Alumni and
the person in position of assistance is also an old boy, the person’s request
is granted without stress. He further made us to understand that it can be very
difficult at the beginning, but if we are fully committed, attaining our goals
will be made easy. As the pioneers of Demonstration Secondary School, ABU Zaria
we should empower ourselves first so that we will attract more members.
Segun
Daramola said, because we are not many and only a few members have always been
present and constant at meetings. Kudi Olobayo, Bola Olanrewaju, Ninma Apim and
John Ojuola. John Ojuola is very active, has links to so many people because he
has brought in two people already that is why he’s made the PRO. Segun Daramola
went further that, we can look for small projects or presentations to do for
places like Old People’s Home, Motherless Babies Home, etc and since he is more
into publicity he can get the press to cover such programmes and air it. This
is another way of creating awareness and letting people know that DEMOSA is in
existence.
Segun
Daramola now suggested that members present should, by next meeting draft out
what our Constitution should look like so we can deliberate on it and come up with one as it
is one of the requirements for
registration with Corporate Affairs Commission. He will also find out all that
is required including cost from Corporate Affairs Commission.
Since
DEMOSA has a group on Facebook and also BB Group, we can share ideas and opinion
through this medium as this will assist
us to just conclude matters and waste no
time at all when we have our meetings. Segun added that anytime there is a post
on either BB Group or DEMOSA blog from him or Bola Olanrewaju, members should
assist to spread the information to other DEMOSA Members. Femi Obagboye advised
that we should care for ourselves. Once we find Old Students we should follow
up on such person with calls send reminders of meeting dates. Other existing
members too should be informed about the individual concern so that they too
can keep in touch with him/her
Femi
Obagboye moved for adjournment and John Ojuola seconded. Closing prayers was said by Femi Obagboye.
Meeting ended at 5:10
