OPENING
The meeting started quite late by 14.45 due to the fact that we could not see the manager who makes arrangement for chairs for us to sit, hence Maikudi led us in opening prayer while Tope Soladoye read the minutes of our last minutes. After reading the minutes Henry called our attention to the fact that in the area titled other issues, Dapo Daramola was actually the one who spoke on Masai Ujiri’s  visit. After the adoption, Lateef Suberu called for the adoption which was seconded by Azeez Momodu.

APOLOGY
Bukonla and Bola Olanrewaju sent in their apology for not being able to attend the meeting. We take apology from Kudi though she called in that she is on her way but maybe due to the rain and hold up she did not meet us before we dispersed.

LOGO
The issue of logo of the Alumni was brought up and Dapo Daramola showed the house the copy of the logo. We looked at it and various comments were made, Henry suggested that the logo does not have ABU anywhere on, that since ABU is not the only university having a secondary school named Demonstration, hence there is a need to signify on our logo which Demonstration’s Logo it is. Adesina also commented that since our uniform is is navy blue, the logo should be navy blue in colour but this was countered that green is the colour of ABU and so we cannot do what is different from our parent (ABU). Dapo said in branding there is uniformity which we need to adhere to, base on this we rested the case on that.

WELFARE
On the issue of welfare being included in the constitution, Bar. Azeez suggested that when writing our constitution, it will not be appropriate to include a fix amount  to be given to members who are celebrating or being bereave because if we do, if need be in the future, if we do anything otherwise, it will be against our constitution and this will make us be changing or adjusting the constitution all the time seeking CAC stamp, this will be cumbersome and expensive. His suggestion is that we could have an in house committee which will be saddled with the responsibility to decide what should be given to anybody as at when due, he further suggested that the committee might be on yearly basis or reconstituted every year. Dapo further reminded the house that in our previous meeting we’ve agreed to a token meeting levy of one thousand naira. On this Adesina further enumerated that the one thousand is being levied because as it is now, we do not have an annual due to run the affairs of the Alumni we need to start somewhere and that this token for now is not by compulsion, for those in the meeting who don’t have up to one thousand naira, it is not a barrier for attending and also if any one has more than one thousand naira no problem.

2013 ACTIVITIES
For this year we are trying to draw up programs for that we have a general direction of where we are going. Segun Daramola encouraged the house to bring up ideas as per what  we could include in the yearly activities. Already included in this year’s activity is the presentation of scholarship to the best graduating student in JSS 3 and SS2. This will be awarded on the school’s speech and prize giving day. We are still open to suggestions. Suggestion was made by Adesina that we should find out the school fees and date of the speech and prize giving day.

OTHER ISSUES
A letter of appreciation was sent by a member of the house  and was read  by Adesina showing his appreciation to the house for the financial assistance given him last December. Segun enumerated further on the importance of being a member and also inviting other Demosaites that we know, as we have many things to gain.

Adesina spoke on his efforts too especially now as it concern this Abuja chapter, that he will going to Abuja next month and will be attending their meeting if they agree to have it when he is available and with a couple of old school mates who had promised him to be there.

Segun further said when one is coming down this association stands to lift the person up till one becomes balance again, that one will value # 5000.00 when one is in dire need than one million naira when one is comfortable.

The newest comer in the house Abdullahi Maikudi was given the floor to address us. He said he was happy to be part of this meeting as he had never witnessed an organized one like this before. He promised to always be in attendance and specifically thanked Adesina and Lateef for inviting him. He also said should there be a financial need in the house he should be carried along to contribute his own quota.

Tope spoke on her efforts in trying to convince her cousin to attend but did promise not to relent. Adesina gave words of exhortation as the meeting was being rounded up. There was a run down of pictures of our previous activities so that those who were actually coming for the first time can see.

MONEY CONTRIBUTED:

Of the money generated-#7,500, #5,000 was handed over to John Ojuola to help present to Mr. Abdulateef who gave birth to a baby boy recently. The remaining balance with Adesina, #2,000 was paid into Bola Olanrewaju’s account for the monthly running of the office while the remaining balance of #500 has been paid into Kudi’s account being the treasurer.

At exactly 16.15 Maikudi moved a motion for adjournment which was seconded by Tope.

Closing prayer was said by Temitope Soladoye.

OPENING
The meeting started at 2.25pm and the opening prayers was led by Adesina Ogunyebi.
John Ojuola read the minutes of October meeting. Lateef Suberu adopted the minutes and Adesina Ogunyebi seconded.

APOLOGY
Kudi Olobayo and Azeez Momodu sent in message that they won’t  been able to be present at the meeting.

LOGO
A logo that would dignify our Alumni is being worked on. Work is yet to be concluded on it. A car sticker too will be done, Segun Daramola  told the house. He promised to present the logo once its finished.

LEGAL
The constitution is ready copies have been sent to Michael Akuboh in Zaria, Ayedime Bako in Abuja and Olusegun Akintunde in Canada for their contributions as we await their responses before we commence the process of registration.

WELFARE
Bola Olanrewaju called the attention of the House on the benefits for members and our Alma Mata because it was not included in details in the constitution. Ogunyebi Adesina thinks it should not be included while Segun Daramola and Lateef  Suberu disagree with him. Segun Daramola wants us to have a clear cut on the issue as he gave example with what the class of 92 set did for their year group tutor. He went further that a blanket fee cannot be attached instead a token that is reasonable be decided by the Welfare Committee in line with what is available at the time the event occurred. In a situation where the event is out of the jurisdiction of the alumni support from the alumni will be needed to cushion member’s contribution.
Ogunyebi Adesina, brought up suggestion to aid and support Bola Olanrewaju with cash no matter how little in what she does for the alumni. The issue revolves round secretariat role. He volunteered to assist her with the printing of the minutes for meetings once a while Henry Gaji agreed to send recharge card to her once a while too. After several deliberation, Solomon Evanero suggested Two Thousand Naira (N2,000) is reasonable enough to give her every month  as assistance in the running cost. The House agreed. Bola Olanrewaju then suggested that the money should be given when constitution is ready and fully in place. The House agreed that it should take immediate effect as we have started monthly due collection of One thousand Naira each, (N1,000).

PARTY
Response from the post of the end of year party on facebook was not encouraging at all. The date, venue and time as decided before still stands.

OTHER ISSUES
Henry Gaji reminded us that all we are doing is not only branding DEMOSA but also celebrating ourselves as we have a lot of us home and abroad that made DEMOSA proud. Examples are Masai Ujiri an International ambassador, Lanre Lasisi, a journalist with Channels Television one of the choice  television station in Nigeria among others.
A visit to be paid to our Alma Mata in 2013 during their Speech and Prize giving  day in Zaria, Kaduna state  was discussed though the date is not known. The decision to give scholarship to the best Junior Secondary School Three (JSS.3) Student and the best Senior Secondary School Two (SSS.2) Student  was made.
Segun Daramola, reminded the House that this body is the National body of DEMOSA so all other DEMOSA groups especially the different year groups that have decided to come together should all be under the national umbrella and operate same constitution. He further listed the achievements of DEMOSA Lagos in the past one year as follows:

MATTERS DISCUSSED
REPORT ON EGBE TRIP: Bola Olanrewaju presented the report on their trip to Egbe during which they went to see Mrs. Balogun, a mother and  former Senior Mistress at Demonstration Secondary School ABU Zaria on the occasion of her 76th birthday. The report includes the names of members that contributed to the success of the trip, the total money realized, the expenses incurred during the trip and the balance left.
MRS. ALAIYEMOLA’ GIFT: Bola Olanrewaju suggested that we add to the cash from the balance left from the Egbe trip or we just take 10k out of it and present cash as gift to Mrs. Alaiyemola. John Ojuola reminded the house that as discussed we should get her a gift. As gift is more treasured than cash. A good wrist watch was suggested and be given to her as Xmas gift. Lateef Suberu and Kudi Olobayo  also agreed to this.
MEETING DUES: As discussed and agreed at the previous meeting on keeping a small purse for the Alumni until an account is opened, Segun Daramola suggested One Thousand Naira (N1,000)as he sees Five Hundred Naira (N500) as too small. The House all accepted. For now it’s made clear that where a member doesn’t have to give at a sitting, such should not be carried over to the next meeting to avoid unnecessary accumulation as this will keep members back from attending meetings. The payment of the dues was started same day.  Bola Olanrewaju suggested Kudi Olobayo as treasurer to keep the monthly dues, Segun Daramola seconded and the House too accepted.
LEGAL: Azeez Momodu, the Lawyer in the House sent a copy of the Constitution that he had worked on to the Constitution Committee to serve as a guide to work with as the committee has chosen the 10th of November as the day to conclude everything that has to do with the Constitution so as to send to Abuja Chapter for their contributions and also forward same to the lawyer.
LOGO: Segun accepted the blame on not getting the logo ready but promised to get it done and show the Constitution committee on their meeting day.
ON MR. ITOE:  John Ojuola raised the issue of Mr. Itoe concerning the assistance Kotei ask from DEMOSA. Bola Olanrewaju responded that Michael Akuboh has not gotten back to DEMOSA concerning the issue as she spoke with him (Michael) during the week.

PARTY: December 8th 2012 was chosen as the date for DEMOSA get together. Adesina Ogunyebi asked the form it will take. It was agreed that resources be pull together and we decide on what we want. Babajide Akintokun advised that we should know and be sure of the number of people we will carter for so as to avoid waste. After much deliberation on the issue an estimate of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000) was arrived at for now and each member was tax Five Thousand Naira each (N5,000) payable before the next meeting.
Adesina Ogunyebi suggested that we invite members of our family to have fun with us and also see what we have been doing in the last one year. It was advised too that we get gift for the children under age 6.
For the Venue suggested, there is no issue as no payment will be made for us to use the space. The place is Recreation Ground House of Assembly ETB Park, Ikeja. Time of the party has not been decided yet.
OTHER MATTERS: Lateef Suberu accused Bola Olanrewaju of not giving them anything for her birthday. She (Bola) responded that DEMOSA was to honour her. Segun Daramola agreed with her but apologized on behalf for DEMOSA Lagos for not getting her anything for her birthday. The issue of certain benefits such as this will be discussed further.
ADJOURNMENT: Bola Olanrewaju moved for adjournment at 4.20pm seconded by Adesina Ogunyebi.
NEXT MEETING: 25th of November, 2012
CLOSING: The meeting came to a close with prayers said by Azeez Momodu.
